Annals of Arkansas 1947, Four Volumes on CD
In 1947, Dallas Tabor Herndon, director of the Arkansas History Commission, decided to update his wonderful multi-volume Centennial History of Arkansas. He titled the new, four-volume series, Annals of Arkansas 1947. He'd planned to include a chapter about World War II, but notes in his introduction it wasn't possible. He starts his history with the mound builders and brings the history of our fair state up through Governor Bailey's administration. He describes our counties, cities, and towns; our legal and medical systems; schools, churches, agriculture, commerce, industry, and more. But for us genealogists, the meat of the material is the nearly one-thousand biographical sketches of Arkansas folks. Click the link above to see if you see anyone you know. We've scanned all four volumes of the series, all 2,000 pages, and run optical character recognition software on the files so they're completely searchable. The .pdf (Adobe's portable document format) files are exact reproductions of the books themselves. Contact us: Arkansas Research, Inc., PO Box 303, Conway, AR 72033
