Audrey Lee Clouston Becker

Audrey Lee Clouston Becker was born in San Francisco, California, in 1926, one of three daughters. Her mother, Lola Elizabeth Roth, was born in Cottonwood, Shasta County, California, and was the last and favorite granddaughter of America Yokum-Ward. Her grandmother, Lucinda Fern Ward, was born at Balls Ferry, California, and was the eighth and last child of America.

Her father, a Scotsman, was born in Stromness, Orkney Isles, in 1886. These islands are located on the northern-most tips of Scotland. He immigrated to San Francisco in 1907 just after the infamous 1906 earthquake. Audrey's husband, Joseph A. Becker, was born in Germany in 1903 in the Hunsruck-Moselle District (not far from Zell on the River Moselle.) He immigrated to San Francisco in 1922. He and Audrey were married in 1945 in Petaluma, California.

In 1944 Audrey entered the California School of Cosmetology and at 23, she became the owner-operator of a hairdressing salon, a profession she followed for 36 years. In 1983 she was widowed and retired from her business.

The Beckers have one son, Joseph James, born in 1955 in San Francisco, who is now a successful contractor. He is married and has one son.

Audrey says, "I enjoyed being a wife and mother along with my hairdressing business, but I am possessed with this genealogy, 'ain't we all.'"
